15 Reasons Why Football Sucks Compared to Baseball

As we enjoy (some of us) the football season, and with the Super Bowl soon to come and dominate every bit of news for several days, it's important to remember that football is not a great sport. Compared to baseball, it kind of sucks. This will upset some people, but I have a strong case. Here it is, enjoy.
1. Any timed sport is inferior to a sport that isn't timed. You can't "knee the ball" to kill time in baseball. So long as there is one out left, the losing team can make a comeback.
Most of what they do in Football
2. Baseball has simple rules, but is infinitely complex, like chess. Football has more rules and regulations than the DMV, and is not complex...a flag is thrown on every play. It's annoying.
3. Football fans tailgate before the big game. No baseball fan would have a picnic in a parking lot.
4. "The rich history of the game is unmatched. The same 8 teams that made up the National League in 1876 and American League in 1900 still exist today, most in the same city. Baseball embraces it's past, football forgets it as it happens." - A. Ruck
5. Over 162 games, you can be confident the cream rises to the top and the best teams in baseball reach the playoffs. Can you honestly feel confident that is the case after a 16 game schedule?
6. You mever hear "We shouldve won that game!" or "We got screwed!" in baseball. You constantly hear it in football, because so often a team can out-perform another and still lose in football, aided by flukey, countless, boring penalties & turnovers.
Just a silly thing to do
7. The actually flip a coin to determine who gets the ball in OT. That's ridiculous.
8. No cheerleaders in baseball. They are annoying and completely pointless. Baseball does not need sex to sell it's game, nor a designated group of people to help us cheer.
9. Ted Williams
10. How many football players would you recognize walking down the street, excluding QB's. We see baseball players faces regularly and know them like neighbors. - E. Ruck
11. Baseball players have better character. They're more courteous towards fans, less jerky, they don't get into dog-fighting.
Fenway Park
12. Baseball stadiums are beautiful unique baseball cathedrals. The rooftops and Ivy of Wrigley field, the Green Monster at Fenway, the bay just a few feet from the field in San Francisco. The list goes on - Football stadiums are generally boring and have nothing unique like this.

13. Football teams have always exposed loopholes in the game, which the NFL invents yet another rule to combat, further contributing to the ever-changing nature of football. Baseball remains virtually unchanged since the 1800's.
14. Football fields are all the same gridiron…boring! Each baseball field is within a reasonable guidance, but unique.
15. Baseball is internationally loved and the national sport of at least a dozen nations. Truly nobody cares about Football outside of the US.

How is baseball more complex then football? It is like comparing checkers to chess. The only strategy I could see going on is whatever the pitcher might be thinking. There is a reason there are so many coaches on a football team. football is 100 more complex then baseball and is the ultimate team sport.

Also there are so many baseball games a year that who cares about any individual game? I really don't even bother watching baseball until the post season.

In baseball you could take a player from another team or bring someone up from AAA and put him in the line up to play the next day, you could not do that with football. You have to learn the playbook. It takes a long time to prepare for the season and each individual game. Cheerleaders actually do a lot of great things for the community and I beleave football players do more then baseball players do for their community.

Also football in snow or rain awesome! They should play baseball through the rain.

Also baseball is so simple you don't even have to speak the same language. Look at all those guys from Japan or puerto rico they can't even talk to their teammates.

Football is over rated. The players over payed

Baseball should be redesigned to be more exciting. Aspects of football, more confrontational. Such as tackling the base runners or whipping the ball at them to get out. And batters allowed to throw the bat after they hit. This would make it WAY better.

Football is worse than baseball in every way. This game that should only take an hour to play is stretched out to 3 hrs thanks to dumb things like time outs, penalties, and ridiculous half time shows. In baseball, a game lasts only long enough for the team with the lead to get that last out. The only entertainment break is to sing "God Bless America"

Couldn't agree more with this list. I'll give you another one too- Football players are freakish. They're 350 lb linemen, or receivers that can jump 4 feet high, or running backs that are only 5' 9", but weight over 220. Baseball players are just regularly built guys. Anyone can play at a high level. You don't need to be born with a freakish build.

Seriously, I watch baseball when I need a nap... Baseball is more complex than football, what? It takes years to learn the game of football, I can teach a seven year old baseball in 2 days! Football is a mans sport, but has a huge female fan base as well... Football gets your pulse going, you can almost play baseball In a coma for 99% of the game. The pitcher and catcher do 99.99% of the work... How's that interesting?

...For all of you football fanboys, shut up, to all you baseball fanboys...shut up, it all depends on what your into, it depends on your perspective on the games... they are both two totally unique games that you really cant judge either, 80% of all criteria would fit one sport better than the other, like I said ITS ALL ABOUT PERSPECTIVE!

"Baseball has simple rules, but is infinitely complex, like chess."

Baseball games are decided by the batter, there are only about 60 possibilities per batter (hit direction to opposing team, home runs, base stealing etc.) and they aren't at all complex. It is nothing like chess. I don't like US Football either, but at least give them the infinite complexity.

I sincerely hope , as a man, you only wrote this to get a response from people.

1- Who wants to watch an 8hr game?
2- Every sport has unique individual rules.
3- Who doesnt like tailgating?!
4- Individual commitment to a group effort that is what makes it teamwork, company work, a society work, a civilization work -Vince Lombardi
5- You get 7 chances to win a world series. The Super Bowl is decided in one game.
6- You "mever" have to hear Joe Buck filing in endless minutes of dead airtime in football.
7- The visiting team bats first in extra innings? That's ridiculous.
8- Cheerleaders are just that. They lead the cheering for their team.
9- Tom Brady
10- Recognition?
11- Gambling, steroids, prostitution.
12- AT&T stadium.
13- Evolution
14- So we'll compare stadiums and then fields? Okay. Next we'll compare houses and then landscaping.
15- The nfl is expanding to London. Not to mention, over 108 million viewers for last year's super bowl.

the only reason people 'love' the super bowl is in order to have a stupid party and eat and get drunk..people dont care about football if you take the gambling aspect out of it. also what would be easier? to walk down the street and find a huge guy to play offensive line for a series of downs and hold his own or to find a person off the street to hold his own against a major league pitcher? that answer is obvious. the time of game is longer in the nfl than mlb to by the way...

mr Seidel, what does a fairy tale science fiction story like evolution have to do with a game?

I kinda like baseball and your right baseball is the best sport in our country if it was still the 1950's god damn it!!! I mean come on lets get real baseball has two many games so many that you can go on a major losing streak and still make the playoffs as in football, you have to bring it each and every week because every game counts. Another thing most fans don't even stay and watch a full baseball game you no why because after a hour or so it gets boring the fans are not in it and everyone leaves. Also the commentators are boring they Talk about random topics and get off topic because they no most of the games that they are broadcasting won't even have a serious outcome on how the playoff standings will look like. When MLB season comes around everyone is like wow look it's MLB season you watch a few games at the beginning of the season watch the end off the season and then it's playoff time watch a little bit of that and then we crown a winner of the World Series and get on with our lives. I mean baseball is a pretty fun sport but don't try to compare it to Football man.

Football is for men who grew up without a father, in other words - Macho Bullshit. Hyper-masculine, violent and testosterone filled, real men do not need to overcompensate. Real men play baseball. Insecure men play football.
